Entry-Level Jobs in High Demand (No Degree Needed) 2026
Compare in-demand entry-level jobs that need no degree: healthcare, trades, logistics and customer service, with 2025 BLS pay and job outlook.
Which jobs are in demand if you do not have a college degree? Several growing fields hire people with a high school diploma and train them on the job or through short programs. This guide compares four of them, using official US data on pay, training and job outlook.
All figures below come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Occupational Outlook Handbook, May 2025 pay data and 2025–2035 projections, unless another source is named.
Healthcare
Healthcare support is one of the fastest-growing areas for workers without a degree. An ageing population is driving demand for in-home care.
Typical roles:
- Home health aide
- Personal care aide
- Caregiver in assisted living
- Hospice or companion aide
Pay and outlook:
- BLS median for home health and personal care aides: $17.21/hour ($35,800/year), May 2025
- Employment projected to grow 18% from 2025 to 2035, against a 3% average for all occupations
- About 760,500 openings per year projected
- Canada: Job Bank median for personal support workers in home support is $20.50/hour (2023–2024)
Training and requirements: a high school diploma is typical, though some positions do not require one. Training covers hygiene, vital signs and infection control. Some states require certification, a background check or a competency exam, so check with your state health board.
Who it suits: patient, caring people who are comfortable helping others with daily tasks. Evening and weekend hours may be needed.

Trades
Skilled trades offer a path to higher pay through paid apprenticeships. You earn while you learn instead of paying tuition up front.
Typical roles:
- Electrician apprentice
- Plumber or pipefitter apprentice
- HVAC technician trainee
- Construction helper
Pay and outlook (electricians):
- BLS median: $30.38/hour ($63,190/year), May 2025
- Employment projected to grow 9% from 2025 to 2035, much faster than average
- About 72,700 openings per year projected
Training and requirements: BLS lists a high school diploma as typical entry education. Electrician apprenticeships usually last 4 to 5 years, with about 2,000 paid hours of on-the-job training each year plus technical instruction. Most states require electricians to pass a test and be licensed.
UK note: apprentices in England must be 16 or over and get at least 20% of their working hours for training (GOV.UK). The apprentice minimum wage is £8.00/hour from 1 April 2026.
Who it suits: hands-on problem solvers who are happy to commit to several years of structured training.

Logistics
Logistics keeps goods moving from warehouses to doorsteps. Many roles need a licence rather than a degree.
Typical roles:
- Heavy and tractor-trailer truck driver
- Delivery van driver
- Warehouse stocker or order filler
- Forklift operator
Pay and outlook:
- BLS median for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers: $28.19/hour ($58,640/year), May 2025
- Truck driver employment projected to grow 4% from 2025 to 2035; about 214,500 openings per year
- BLS median for delivery truck drivers and driver/sales workers: $21.13/hour, May 2025; projected growth 7%
Training and requirements: long-haul drivers need a commercial driver's license (CDL). Many attend a truck driving school lasting 3 to 6 months (BLS). First-time Class A or B CDL applicants must complete Entry-Level Driver Training with a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
Who it suits: independent people who like driving and can handle long hours or time away from home.

Customer service
Customer service roles exist in almost every industry, from banks to online retailers. They are a common first office job.
Typical roles:
- Customer service representative
- Call or contact centre agent
- Help desk or support chat agent
- Client account assistant
Pay and outlook:
- BLS median: $21.53/hour ($44,770/year), May 2025
- Employment projected to decline 5% from 2025 to 2035
- Still about 289,500 openings per year, all from replacing workers who move on or retire
Training and requirements: a high school diploma is typical. Training usually lasts 2 to 4 weeks, longer in finance and insurance. BLS notes some companies allow working from home.
Who it suits: clear communicators who stay calm under pressure. Be aware of the shrinking outlook, and look for roles that build skills you can take elsewhere.

How to apply safely
- Apply on the employer's own website, an official job board or a registered apprenticeship listing.
- Never pay a fee for a job offer. The FTC says honest employers do not ask applicants to pay to get a job.
- Check that any paid training school is legitimate. For CDL training, confirm the provider is on the FMCSA registry.
- Do not deposit cheques from a new "employer" and send money back.
- Share your Social Security number only after you have a verified offer from a real company.
- Report suspected scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
